The Struie is an absolute staple of the Australian fine wine landscape and displays Torbreck’s relentless quest for perfection. A recent visit to their impeccable facilities in Maranaga solidified for me that they are an absolutely world class producer.
The Struie is from predominantly Barossa fruit, with a splash of high altitude Eden shiraz which provides a graceful lift of perfumed aromatics, bound to get those taste buds dancing. This vintage shows concentrated, high quality grapes, coupled with 18 months in French oak barrels (20% of which is new) and you’ve got a core of power surrounded by a lashing of finesse. From vines averaging 50 years of age, the Struie remains as consistent as ever and this is a bottle you can certainly show off to wine aficionados world wide. Drinking well now and for the next decade at least!
