If you follow the Argentine wine scene at all, you’ll know the name Catena. Laura Catena is the fourth generation of the family to grow malbec and Luca is her artisan brand. So we’re already starting with wine royalty here. Throw in some buzzworthy stats like 50-year old vines and vineyards at over 1000 metres above sea level, and you’re onto something exciting.
Deep in colour and loaded with spice and fruit, this malbec is already drinking well. You’ll find black and red cherries, chocolate and espresso on the palate, along with quite lively acidity and a tannin structure that’ll allow it to age well for a few more years. With a family history as interwoven with malbec as that of the Catena’s, you’d expect nothing less.
