Pinot gris often gets an ‘easy drinking’ and ‘unfussy’ report card, and not without reason - the wines are built for broad appeal and we love them for that. However this gris, from a small but long-established victorian producer, offers the drinker a little bit of sophistication to go alongside. The aromatic and flavour characters are just this side of ripe - crisp pear and tart green apple - but there is apricot and peach stone fruit on offer too. The acid bristles and excites the mouth, and there is enough shape and palate weight that the wine feels generous and full. This is one for the die-hard gris fans; for those who like to do a little thinking while they do a little drinking.
