In our jobs, we see a lot of wine. We visit a lot of wineries. And sometimes when the meetings are over and it’s all about what you really want to take home and polish off over dinner, it comes time to pick the ‘wines of the day’. One particular visit to the Barossa had me towing this bottle carefully home to enjoy with the night’s dinner, and I can still remember it viscerally to this day. Rich, unending notes of chocolate, leather, mulberry and liquorice swirl around your mind as if you’ve entered a trance. Right when you think it’s all about that which is deep and dark, the bright aromatics of eucalypt and slate give this beauty a refreshing edge that you so desire. Be warned: once you’ve tried this, you’ll never want to go back to another cabernet again.
