We love our Black Market Deals, but it can be a bloody hard choice choosing just one. We’ve done the hard work for you with this case, curating a selection of our top 6 reds that we reckon are too good to skip past. No tricks, just great wines that won’t bankrupt you in order to enjoy them. We’d be lying if we said we didn’t want to tell everyone about the goodies in this pack, but you’ll just have to wait until it hits your doorstep. In the meantime, we’ll be over here sampling through a case (or two).

Each case contains ONE of the following:

Shiraz 2018

McLaren Vale, SA

96pts Sam Kim | 95pts Wine Pilot | 94pts James Halliday | 5 Stars Sam Kim | Five Star Halliday Rated Winery | Single Vineyard | Old Vines

From the oldest vines on this estate vineyard comes this dark and deep Vale shiraz. Great drainage in the sand-over-clay soil sets the stage for excellent concentration of flavour, presenting as blackberry, cherry, plum and spice. Twenty months in a mix of new and seasoned French oak rounds out the package with fine-grained tannins and a subtle cedary influence on the back palate. This is classic Vale old vine shiraz, inky and smooth, deep and complex.

Shiraz 2017

Barossa Valley, SA

96pts Wine Orbit | Five Stars Wine Orbit

Aged wine lovers delight. We’re bringing you all of the joys of a cellared wine, without the pricetag it often comes with. And this is one shiraz that has matured exceptionally well. All the elegance and intrigue you want from a drop that’s seen a whack of bottle age: brittle flowers, dried flowers and fruit, earth, and an appealing ‘dusky’ nuance. But this has freshness and lift to boot, a mark of excellent wine making. The palate is rich and enduring, blackcurrant leaf, tobacco, and cedar wood persist throughout the drinking experience. Such a pleasure to experience it unfold in the glass, and even more of a pleasure to drink. This is steak wine. Good mate wine. Third date wine. We’ve only been able to get our mitts on a small parcel of this south Aussie icon, so stock up.

Shiraz 2018

Barossa Valley, SA

96pts Wine Orbit | Five Stars Wine Orbit

From the prized southern part of the sun-drenched Barossa, steeped in quality grown shiraz (you know we’ve done the research) It’s right here, where the surrounding views offer the picture-perfect painting; a diversity of colours from the tree leaves to the soils, which in turn give our favourite grape - shiraz - all the lashings of character we as adults have grown to become obsessed with. A blend of hand-selected low-yielding parcels, you’ll find generous flavours of black fruit, olive and pepper spice, backed by silky tannins, yet the wine is intense on the palate, with a great depth and length. Such a complex finish, and a damn fine gem of a shiraz.

Shiraz 2020

Coonawarra, SA

95pts Wine Orbit | 93pts Winepilot | 93pts Qwine Review | Five Stars Wine Orbit

Yeah yeah, we know. All the Coonawarra hype is for the cabernet. BUT, did you know that the region started as a shiraz powerhouse and there’s still exceptional examples being produced today from older vineyards? I’m know because we’ve got one of those right here. It’s full-bodied, but lively enough to jump out of the glass. There’s a savoury, spicy element to it, a touch of chocolate, and a nice backbone of oak from 18 months in 30% new French barrels. We’re not saying to skip over the cabernet by any means, but leave a place at the table for Coonawarra shiraz of this quality.

Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Barossa Valley, SA

95pts Wine Orbit | Five Stars Wine Orbit | Boutique Producer | New to the ‘Fo

As Aussies: we know cabernet, and we know Barossa. But do we know why the meeting of the two is so remarkable? Two wrongs may not make a right, but two rights definitely do. Barossa’s ability to ripen red wines to luscious heights works fantastically well for cabernet, a variety that struggles at the best of times. So, you’ll get the pleasure of blackcurrant and menthol, but you’ll see even more nuance enter the aroma profile - dancing between blackberry, cherries, mint, cola, and graphite. If you’re anything like us you’ll probaby fall pretty quickly in love with this wine, and with this producer. Amongst the Barossa giants, this humble winery is all about quality - and they deliver it in spades.
