We love our Black Market Deals, but it can be a bloody hard choice choosing just one. We’ve done the hard work for you with this case, curating a selection of our top 6 reds that we reckon are too good to skip past. No tricks, just great wines that won’t bankrupt you in order to enjoy them. We’d be lying if we said we didn’t want to tell everyone about the goodies in this pack, but you’ll just have to wait until it hits your doorstep. In the meantime, we’ll be over here sampling through a case (or two).
Each case contains ONE of the following:
Shiraz 2018
Barossa Valley, SA
95pts Wine Orbit | Five Stars Wine Orbit
We’ve got to say, when did 2018 start feeling like forever ago? Well, we’re starting to call that aged in the eyes of wine in the bottle. For classic Barossa Valley shiraz like this, we often need a little time to chill, and after a long lie-down, this number is coming at us with energy, vibrance, and intensity. Vanilla and blackcurrants galore, with cherry, anise and violets playing their part too. Is that a whiff of pepper, I sense? I think indeed it is. The mark of a good craftsperson, there is certainly nothing to fault here.

Shiraz 2018
Barossa Valley, SA
95pts Wine Orbit | 5 Stars Wine orbit
From the prized southern part of the sun-drenched Barossa, steeped in quality grown shiraz (you know we’ve done the research) It’s right here, where the surrounding views offer the picture-perfect painting; a diversity of colours from the tree leaves to the soils, which in turn give our favourite grape - shiraz - all the lashings of character we as adults have grown to become obsessed with. A blend of hand-selected low-yielding parcels, you’ll find generous flavours of black fruit, olive and pepper spice, backed by silky tannins, yet the wine is intense on the palate, with a great depth and length. Such a complex finish, and a damn fine gem of a shiraz.

Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Coonawarra, SA
Museum Release
This wine from a cult Coonawarra producer will be a special treat for the mofos who get their hands on one of the cases, of which there aren’t many available. It’s a cellar release that has 9 years of ageing, developing and improving under its belt. It’s a cuvèe that is usually exclusive to the producer’s database, but somehow our charming wine buyers have managed to get some for the site.
Each glass of this cabernet is sure to be excellent and intriguing. The once boisterous tannins have now mellowed on the silky palate, and fruit is joined by herbaceous and somewhat meaty notes. There’s still classic cabernet cassis and blackberry, which is accompanied by rosemary, thyme and a long and savoury finish. Be quick, mofo, cos a deal like this will not last long!

Mourvedre 2020
Barossa Valley, SA
93pts Wine Pilot | Mofo Fave
We wonder why this wondrous variety doesn’t get more time in the spotlight. Yes, it’s well known as the ‘M’ in the ever popular GSM blend, but as a straight variety mourvedre holds its own. Any avid wine loving aficionado should be able to attest. Without giving too much away, be assured that the vineyard from whence these grapes were plucked are hot property, and showcase all we’ve come to love and adore from mourvedre. Red berry notes burst from the glass surrounded by enticing perfumed aromatics. A savoury core of fresh and dried herbs, bay leaf and subtle cacao are a testament to its complexity and the long finish of soft spice will leave you wanting yet another sip. Its medium body maintains freshness, allowing a drinking window from now onwards.

GSM 2021
Barossa Valley, SA
96pts Sam Kim | 94pts Wine Showcase | Gold Wine Showcase | 5 Stars Sam Kim
We’ve mentioned how much we love this wine many times. Pretty much every vintage we’ve had, in fact. It’s a fantastically well thought-out wine. Each of the individual varieties, from every different vineyard, was separately matured in small vats to track their progress to find the perfect blend ratio for the final product. You can expect a little portion of this blend from the higher elevation Eden vineyards, it is at once full, firm, and fresh. A delicate handling has made a strikingly bold wine here, and we’re all the better for having tasted it.
