We love our Black Market Deals, but it can be a bloody hard choice choosing just one. We’ve done the hard work for you with this case, curating a selection of our top 6 reds that we reckon are too good to skip past. No tricks, just great wines that won’t bankrupt you in order to enjoy them. We’d be lying if we said we didn’t want to tell everyone about the goodies in this pack, but you’ll just have to wait until it hits your doorstep. In the meantime, we’ll be over here sampling through a case (or two).

Each case contains ONE of the following:

Pinot Noir 2017

Marlborough, NZ

97pts Wine Orbit | Single Vineyard

An incredible vineyard planted entirely to pinot noir. Determined to make the absolute best quality wine, the opportunity cost essentially equals one vine producing no more than one bottle. Pretty tiny volumes, right? Quality always comes at a price. The pinot is of course entirely hand-harvested, basket-pressed, wild yeast- fermented and only seeing the finest of French oak. The resulting pinot is concentrated, textured and layered with superb fruit, dancing along a black cherry spectrum and undergrowth notes of mushroom and earth. While it isn’t shy on tannins, this fairly robust pinot is still light on its feet, with an ethereal quality in spades. Heavenly pinot, and in our opinion, worthy of more than 97 points. Powerful and sophisticated.

Shiraz 2018

McLaren Vale, SA

96pts Winestate | Five Stars Winestate | Five Star Halliday Rated Producer

This isn’t a reinvention of the wheel we have here. It’s exactly what lovers of McLaren Vale shiraz love. Full-bodied, bursting with mulberry and plum, underscored by mocha and earthy tones and held together with nice acidity and a hit of smooth oak. One of the regions most highly-regarded winemakers is behind this, but you know the deal mofo...his secret is safe with us.

Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Pyrenees, VIC

94pts Andrew Graham | 93pts Wine Pilot | 93pts Bob Campbell |

Sometimes we all get caught up in the buzz of the big Aussie wine regions, forgetting to put some focus on the hidden gems that are found on the roads between. The Victorian Pyrenees make some very serious styles, with their full, rich cabernets leading the focus. This producer goes beyond emulating the famed cabernets of the world, creating a uniquely beautiful wine that does justice to their 50+year old vines. The lifted aromatics of bell pepper, blackcurrant, and minty eucalypt are striking on the nose. There’s plenty of plush dark berries and spice to reinforce the body alongside the ample tannins you will find packed in each sip. A reminder of the heights cabernet can achieve, especially when you go out of your way to find it.

Shiraz Grenache 2020

McLaren Vale, SA

93pts Halliday Wine Companion | 93pts The Real Review | 93pts Gary Walsh | Top 20 South Australia Shiraz Blends 2020

We’re not going to say who said it, but some reviewers have called this ‘exceptional’. The same can be said for the fantastic team at our fave winery, and while we could wax lyrical about them - you know we can’t reveal. We can discuss how slippery and delightful this wine is and how many glasses we could sink on any given weeknight. Blueberries mingling with herbs and perhaps some charcuterie in there too. There are tannins; although you’ll be so busy noticing the pristinely balanced palate, you’ll barely see them hang around, but tannins there are. Us Aussies might champion the shiraz cab blend, but shiraz grenache is what the real story is all about.

Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Coonawarra, SA

Boutique Producer | Single Vineyard

When it comes to making terroir driven wines, some winemakers find one region is hard enough to learn and have a grasp on. For this producer, the opposite is true, and one region is simply not enough. Instead, they hunt for the best vinous treasures that various regions have to offer, and it should come as no surprise that for this winemaker- Coonawarra is where cabernet belongs. Bright in colour and on the palate, this is what the cool kids would call ‘pizza wine’. Plush tannins, an abundance of fruit and just a light dose of oak to give it the ‘oomph’ factor.

Tempranillo 2021

McLaren Vale, SA

Five Red Star Halliday Rated Winery | Certified Organic and Biodynamic | Vegan | Preservative Free

Fresh, juicy, plump red wine that you’ll want to drink ‘round the clock. We were pretty excited to get some wines from this producer, being a standout in their field for innovation and craftsmanship in the McLaren Vale region. This exemplifies everything that they’re about- being a little playful while showing great respect for the wine and its journey. You can expect all the sappy, black fruits that are typical of tempranillo, with a little kick of earthy goodness that parks itself so wonderfully next to food. The best part is that this is an all round pleaser, organic & biodynamic certified, with no added preservatives and vegan friendly. What’s not to love?
