The grand cru vineyard of ‘Ollwiller’ belongs to one of many in Alsace, but unique in its set-up, planted as an amphitheatre of vines at the foot of the Vieil-Armand mountain near the village of Wuenheim. The clay and limestone soil enjoys ample water and, paired with the intense sunshine indicative of the appellation, produces wines that are pretty generous and rich in style. Riesling, which makes up about 65% of the plantings of the vineyard, shows typical hallmarks of minerality and citrus, making for good drinking in its youth with ageability stretching over a decade. Pretty, powerful and poised. Just perfection.
