You step tentatively over the threshold, holding your breath almost without realising. There’s just enough to see the shape of the room, the old stony walls, and make out what looks like a switch next to you. You flick it cautiously, and after a beat, a light overhead crackles into life. When your eyes adjust, you realise where you are. You’ve made it. You’re in Vinomofo’s Secret Cellar.
We’re massive fans of the bubbles coming out of Victoria’s King Valley. Like you didn’t know! We tell anyone who’ll listen. They do a mean prosecco, but everything coming out of there seems to be delicious.
And this producer certainly knows how to pop the cork on a party! It’s cool up that way (actually it’s bloody cold if you ask me) so they get some beautiful, bright pinot noir and chardonnay with the zippy acid you need to liven up the dancefloor. After some expert blending, the final wine has a rich, creamy texture, and gorgeously crisp apple and citrus flavours.
And even when your guests have packed up and gone home, you’ve washed up that mountain of glassware and straightened the picture-frames on the walls, you’ve got a wine that nails it as a food pairing too. This is too fun and too versatile just to drink at parties. Best to stock up while you’re in the secret cellar, mofos!
